Visa and residence status acquisition, renewal and change
Visa renewal is possible up to three months before the expiration date of your stay.
We recommend that you complete the visa renewal procedure well in advance, as renewal may not always be completed smoothly.
How to renew your work visa
There are two main ways to renew a work visa.
The first is when there are no changes to your place of employment or work content since your last application. In this case, if there are no problems with your conduct, you can receive renewal permission within one to two weeks. The application process is not difficult, so you can do it alone without any problems.
The second is when you change jobs or your duties since your last application. In this case, you will have to go through the same screening process that was done when you obtained your work visa. This will take more time and effort than the first case, so support from your workplace is important.
Procedures required for visa renewal
Visa renewal procedures are carried out at the immigration bureau that issued the visa.
In addition to the application form, you will need your passport and residence card to apply. If you are renewing a work visa, you will also need a company registration certificate and tax payment certificate.
If there are no changes in your place of employment or job duties since your last application, and you have no evidence of poor conduct, the renewal process will be smooth; however, please be aware that in some cases it may take some time.
